Peking University, Beijing, May 12, 2009: The third annual “Beijing Universities’ President’s Cup” Table Tennis Tournament, hosted by the Beijing Municipal Commission of Education, co-organized by Beijing University Students’ Sports Association and Peking University (PKU), was held at the training base of KU Founder Table Tennis Club on May 10th. Thirty-six managers from 16 colleges and universities in Beijing, including PKU, Beijing Foreign Studies University, and the University of International Business and Economics took part in the tournament.
Han Qide, Vice Chairman of the National People's Congress, Du Songpeng, Member of Beijing Municipal Education Commission, Zhang Yanjun, Executive Deputy Secretary-General of the Joint Secretariat of the China University Students’ Sports Association, Zhang Yan, Deputy Secretary of the CPC PKU Committee, Gan Beilin, Director of the Department of Physical Education of the Beijing Municipal Education Committee, Liu Qixiao, Secretary-General of Beijing University Students’ Sports Association, and other related officers attended the opening ceremony, which was hosted by Hao Guang’an, Director of the PKU Department of Physical Education and Sport Sciences. Academician Han Qide, and Zhang Yanjun did the kickoff for the competition.
The tournament included men's singles and women's singles games. Han Qide and Yue Sulan, Han, as representatives of PKU, participated in the competition and won the championships of the men's single and women's single, respectively. Han Qide issued the trophy for PKU.
The competition received tremendous support and cooperation from Office of the PKU CPC Committee and the President Office of PKU, Department of Physical Education and Sport Sciences, the Security Department, the Affiliated Hospital of PKU and other departments as well.
