Peking University, Nov.3, 2011: As the most influential academic forum held by Peking University (PKU), Beijing Forum 2011 is scheduled to be held on November 4 to 6, which will embrace over 300 renowned scholars from all over the world. Ban-ki Moon, UN Secretary-General, will give a video speech on the opening ceremony of the Forum.
Ban-ki Moon
Beijing Forum has upheld the concept of Harmony of Civilizations to promote a peaceful, harmonious and prosperity world for mankind, which agrees with the goal and the mission of the United Nations. Since the founding of Beijing Forum, we have received a substantial support from UN. Kofi Annan, former UN Secretary- General had sent a congratulatory letter to express his best regards to Beijing Forum in 2004. In 2007 and 2010, Ban-Ki Moon extended his regards and acclamations for the success of Beijing Forum by congratulatory letters and video messages. Joseph Verner Reed and Sha Zukang, UN Under-Secretary General, had come to the Forum and given speeches in person several times. Besides being present, sending congratulatory letters and video messages, the UN supported Beijing Forum in many other ways. The National Committee of UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) and UNDP (United Nations Development Program) have become the support organizations of Beijing Forum in succession, showing great concerns for the forum activities. Beijing Forum 2011 will be honored to embrace the participation of Renata Lok-Dessallien, United Nations Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in China.
Promoted by Beijing Forum, PKU had joined United Nations Academic Impact Project, and participated in United Nations Academic Impact for a Better Worldconference held by UN in Shanghai on November 1 to 2, 2010, opening up a new way for PKU’s international development. The great attention and solid support showed by UN have expanded the influence of Beijing Forum to an international scale; as well as strengthened the determination of Beijing Forum on promoting the concept of Harmony. Under the theme of Harmony, the bilateral cooperation is developing and deepening, which has served as a bridge between UN and Beijing Forum.
