Machiavelli’s theory of republican liberty lies in the freedom from control and the chance of people’s autonomy. Machiavelli believes that political liberty demands a kind of citizen virtue that can be represented by both political leaders and common citizens. One special part of the lecture is the presentation of Machiavelli’s criticism towards Christianity. At the end of the lecture, Machiavelli’s opinions on the declination and revival of republican countries will be discussed as well.
