Abstract: Over the past 40 years, the Chinese economy has seen sustained economic growth. The Chinese government, especially local government, has played a key role in this process. How is China's growth connected to local-level governance structures and incentive mechanisms? How does local government implement industrial policies and promote economic development? With the start of a new semester upon us, Peking University's Belt & Road Institute has invited Professor ZHOU Li-an, Associate Dean of the Guanghua School of Management, as the next speaker in its "Understanding China and the Belt & Road" Lecture Series. Professor ZHOU will provide a political economic analysis of China's development by expounding the "Chinese characteristics" present in the local-levels of China's system.
