Abstract: Our research interests and goals are dedicated to nano-bio electronics, specifically biocompatible electronics for medical implants and electrical therapy, based on bio-inspired/mimetic engineering and integrated top-down and bottom-up nanofabrication. Our research focus on “bioiontronics”, based on sophisticated ion control for interactive communication with biology. Ionic species dominate biological signaling in nature, so converting biochemical ionic signals into electronic signals and stimulating biological system with ions and biochemicals are an emerging technique in the nano-biofields.
Speaker's bio: Takeo Miyake, Ph.D., is associate professor of Graduate School of Information, Production and Systems at Waseda University. He graduated with B.S. in Electrical Engineering in 2004, and then received the Ph.D. in Nanoscience and Nanoengineering in 2008 from Waseda University, working in Professor Ohdomari’s and Professor Tanii’s groups. He was selected for the young scientist program from the Japanese Society for the Promotion of Science. In 2009, he joined Tohoku University as assistant professor in the Department of Bioengineering and Robotics, working with Professor Nishizawa. He then moved to the US and joined the research group of Professor Marco Rolandi in Materials Science and Engineering at University of Washington (2014-2016) and in Electrical Engineering at University of California, Santa Cruz (2015-2016). In 2016, he started his independent academic career in Waseda University.
