Peking University, Beijing, Nov. 25, 2009: On the afternoon of November 19, Prof. Lin Jianhua, Executive Vice-President of Peking University (PKU), visited the School of Continuing Education of PKU, accompanied by Prof. Guan Haiting, Vice-Dean of Studies, Prof. Hou Jianjun and Prof. Zhang Hong, both the Vice-Director of the Office of Continuing Education, and Prof. Zhang Meimei, Vice-Dean of the School of Continuing Education.

At first, Prof. Lin Jianhua met the staff of the school and gave them his best wishes. He pointed out that the School of Continuing Education has made great achievements during the past several years and played an active role in establishing a learning society and learning organization. In the mean time, it has also accumulated valuable experience in the training of senior governmental officers, business professionals, and technical professionals. He said that the vigorous development of PKU professionaltraining was related to the hard work of every staff of the school. He stressed that the aim of PKU professional training is to service the national strategy, train professional talents, enhance intellectual support and provide ideas guidance. Therefore, they should provide strong intellectual support and high-quality talents for the harmonious development of the national economy and society based on the renowned teachers and courses of PKU. At the same time, they should also strengthen the courses’ innovation and teachers’ management for the science development and leaders’ training. He encouraged the staffs to enhance the predictability, planning and creativity of the work with innovative perspective in order to promote the work of the school to a new level.

Subsequently, Prof. Lin Jianhua had a meeting with Prof. Guan Haiting and other leaders from the school and the Office of Continuing Education. Prof. Hou Jianjun, Prof. Zhang Hong, and Prof. Zhang Meimei introduced the development status of the School of Continuing Educationrespectively. Prof. Lin Jianhua expressed that the high-end training is an important part of transitiondevelopment of PKU continuing education, and PKU has also been affirmed as the training base for senior governmental officers bythe Organization Department of the CPC Central Committeeand Ministry of Education, which is a good opportunity for the development of PKU continuing education. He pointed out that we should promote the development of PKU continuing education from a view of maintaining the reputation of PKU and enhancing the overall strength of teaching and researching to making PKU a world-renown university. The aim of establishing the School of Continuing Education is to set up inter-disciplinary, comprehensive high-end training as well as support the development of other departments. The four-year development of the school has proved its success. He also expressed that the leaders of School of Continuing Education and Office of Continuing Education should consult with the correlated offices to solve the problem of lacking office and teaching spaces as soon as possible and organize continuing education meetings to plan for the further development of PKU continuing education.
