Peking University. Beijing. April 17, 2010: The 7.1-magnitude quake shook Yushu County in Qinghai Province at 7:49 am on Wednesday, April 14. The center of the earthquake was close to a town with a population of 100,000, which resulted in serious casualties and property loss. As the saying goes, “When disaster strikes, help comes from all sides”. The Red Cross Student Association of PKU quickly reacted overnight to get in contact with the Red Cross Society of Beijing for preparation of raising money. They called for the entire university to show their love by donating money for Yushu County.
The fund-raising event started at 11:00 am, April 15, which was met with enthusiastic responses from teachers and students of the university. Many of them generously donated money with care and love, they also wrote down blessings on the message boards showing tender care for the devastated area, showing how PKUers are constantly connected with our nation and her people. Some students from Qinghai Province in great love for their hometown even helped out with the organization of the event. The air was saturated with feelings of warmth and love. More than 10,000 RMB had been collected by 7:00 pm that night, the financial donations will be sent to the stricken region via the Red Cross Society of Beijing as soon as possible.
The event continued at PKU’s Triangle the following day.
