Peking University, Dec.13, 2012:On December 7, 2012 PKU winter cross-country run was held in the campus. PKU vice president Liu Wei attended the opening ceremony and fired the starting gun.
Aiming at promoting students’ physical health and improving students’ health consciousness, this annual activity has been held successively for 19 years and become one of PKU’s brand sports activities.
Despite the weather being extremely cold, more than 1600 participants took part in the activity this year. The running course started from the May Fourth Gym, going all the way through Weiming Lake, Administrative Building, Nong Yuan Dining Hall, and finally back to the May Fourth Gym. The whole distance was about 3000 meters. Before the competition started, the competitors were free to choose to attend the boys’ group, the girls’ group, or the groups representing the communities they were members of.
While running, the students enjoyed the fun of the sport. In the end, Japanese student Ishikawa Nobuhito from the School of Foreign Languages distinguished himself to be the champion among all the male competitors, and Chen Juwancong from the School of International Relations won the female championship.
Every year, besides the winter cross-country run, PKU holds other activities such as the Freshman Cup to encourage the students to take exercise more often and in a scientific way.
