Peking University, Oct.19: Peking University leads the nation's teaching achievement for higher education with two First Prizes and fourteen Second Prizes, according to a list of awards recently published by China’s Ministry of Education.
Among the prizes is the project on the reform of the training model and management system of PKU’s undergraduate program, “From Experimental Class to Yuanpei College,” led by Professor Lin Jianhua. Along with other fifteen achievements, PKU is the top winner of the 6th National Teaching Achievement Award for Higher Education.
Since 1989, the Ministry of Education has organized six quadrennial events to assess the nation’s higher education. The National Teaching Achievement Award has become the most influential one and the only national-level award, according to Regulation on Educational Achievement Award, issued in March 1993 by the State Council.
The National Teaching Achievement Award, the National Natural Science Award, the Technological Invention Award and the Scientific and Technological Progress Award are known as China’s top four national awards in education and science, fields to which strategic significances for the progress of the nation are attached.
Higher education in China should be conducted in adherence to the educational principles of the State, in the service of the socialist modernization drive and in combination with productive labor for the socialist cause, as prescribed by the Higher Education Law. And the administrative department for education under the State Council is in charge of the work of higher education throughout the country and administers the affairs of relevant higher education institutions.
Peking University, the “reigning champion” of national evaluation for the previous years, also tops 2009 Beijing’s list of educational achievements, according to the government of Beijing Municipality.
