Peking University, Beijing, Apr. 1, 2010: The 7th "Jiang Zehan Cup" Math Modeling & Computer Application Contest has begun since April, as part of PKU 2010 GlaxoSmithKline Innovation and Career Competition jointly initiated by PKU Office of Educational Administration, School of Mathematical Sciences and PKU Student Extracurricular Activities Guidance Center.
The “Jiang Zehan Cup” is a comprehensive competition based on mathematical knowledge and covering computer and writing skills. It aims to promote creativity and team-work spirit of college students, accelerate the combination of mathematics and other subjects and improve students’ quality all-around. Abstruse mathematical knowledge is not required in this contest. Instead, it requires contestants to be able to use mathematics and computer programming flexibly to deal with practical problems. It is designed for all students with basic mathematical knowledge, and has attracted a large number of participants. Several excellent teams in previous contests have further succeeded in similar contests at both national and international level.
Students can sign up to the 7th “Jiang Zehan Cup” Math Modeling and Computer Application Contest on http://www.youth.pku.edu.cn/xskc and XSKC board on bdwm.net, bulletin board service of Peking University. The final round will be held from May 1 to May 3. The result will be published in late May. Awards include first prize, second prize, third prize, team award and organization award. Outstanding teams will win the chance to participate in China Undergraduate Mathematical Contest in Modeling (CUMCM) and International Mathematical Contest in Modeling (MCM/ICM).
