Peking University, Beijing, March 30, 2010: Yunnan, Guizhou, Guangxi and other provinces within the southwestern region of China are currently under a once-in-a-century drought that is effecting over 60 million people, where 20 million of this group do not have drinking water. The members of the Student Serving Troop of PKU have been closely paying attention to the drought and started to organize the donation entitled of “Ambassador of Rain”. This donation event, which took place on March 27, is a direct reflection of the project “Action for Rain” by the China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation (CFPA).
On the morning of March 27, the Student Serving Troop of PKU organized a donation booth at the Triangle on the main campus. In order to remove all suspicion of corruption, all donations made to this cause was recorded by the name of the donator and the amount donated. However, many students chose to donate anonymously.

A student from the organizing team said, “even though the amount of money we have donated is not a lot, it represents the concern PKU students harbor for those suffering from this natural disaster.” To further attract attention from donators, the organizing students sang songs.
According to the final count, the total amount of donations collected on March 27 was 7043.01 Yuan; on March 28, 9626.10 Yuan; with a total of 16669.11 Yuan. The CFPA appraised the devotion these students showed towards helping this cause by presenting the Student Serving Troop of PKU with a certificate.
This Serving Troop is composed of over 3000 students from different departments and schools within PKU. This Troop has helped many causes in the past and will continue to do so in the future with the help of PKU’s Office of Student Financial Aid.
