Peking University, Oct. 25, 2012: The list for the 3rd batch of the major projects 2012 of the National Social Science Fund (the basic theory group) has been released recently.
8 projects of PKU are in the list, ranking the 1st among all the colleges and universities. PKU has also got another 4 projects established as key projects. The overall project approval rate was 63%.
The major projects of the National Social Science Fund are of the highest level of the governmental projects in the field of humanities and social sciences in China. The basic theory group focuses on supporting a group of important basic theory and cultural research projects that are significant to promoting the national spirit, inheriting national culture, as well as benefiting academic growth and discipline constructions.
The bidding projects of PKU went through careful selections, including initial independent evaluation of experts and re-evaluation of meeting response. PKU’s projects were all highly remarked by the evaluation experts, showing PKU’s excellence in the field of basic theory researches.
For instance, the project research group headed by Prof. Duan Qing on the subject “The Decipherment and Research on Remaining Non-Chinese Documents in the South Silk Road of Xinjiang” had got such comprehensive evaluation as below, “ The Project Leader Professor Duan Qing is an internationally renowned expert on ancient Sanskrit, the Khotanese, Kharosthi and other ancient Iranian languages, who has made outstanding contributions in the interpretation and research field of the newly discovered Sanskrit. This project is academically well prepared, with a rational argument, and meaningful for filling the blank of this field. We believe that it will be a great representative for Chinese scholars in the field of ancient non-Chinese literature and at a leading position in the international academic community”.
Other projects include “Explanation and Research on The Laws and Decrees of Yuan Dynasty” by Prof. Zhang Fan, “Prehistoric Cultural Communication between China and the West” by Prof. Li Shuicheng, “Research on the Main Current of Chinese Aesthetics of the 20th century”(key project) by Prof. Peng Feng, etc.
