Peking University. Beijing. Nov 3, 2009: The Poem, Calligraphy, Painting, Couplet and Photograph Exhibition and the Founding of the Guanghua Management School Painting & Calligraphy Alumni Association Ceremony” began on October 31st.
“The Republic Will Not Forget:Relatives of the Founders of P.R.C Poem, Calligraphy, Painting, Couplet and Photograph Exhibition and the Founding of the Guanghua Management School Painting & Calligraphy Alumni Association Ceremony” began on October 31st. This activity was co-organized by Peking University’s Party Committee Publicity Office, the Great Wall Association and Guanghua Management School. Present at the meeting were: President of the Great Wall Association and Vice Chairman of the Ninth and Tenth National People's Congress, Mr. Xu Jialu, PKU vice president Mr. Lin Jianhua, and president of PKU Guanghua Management School Mr. Zhang Weiying. The opening ceremony was hosted by Zhao Weimin, head of PKU Party Committee’s Publicity Office.
As an important part of the “Great Wall Culture Long March”, this activity began over four months ago on June 29th. The host invited more than 80 generals, relatives of the founders of P.R.C and several prestigious calligraphers and painters in China to participate in the activity. More than 130 pieces of art was collected.
Director Xu Jialu delivered a speech first. He suggested that though most of the founders have left us and their relatives and fellow colleagues have grown old, we should remember the great contribution of Mao Zedong, Liu Shaoqi, Zhu De, Zhou Enlai and other great Proletarian revolutionaries who helped the liberation of the Chinese people. In this special year when the PRC celebrates her 60th birthday, holding such an exhibition would be an effective way for the young generation to learn and carry on the revolutionaries’ great thoughts, tradition and the revolutionary spirit as well as inspire them to work hard for the prosperity of the country.
PKU Vice President Mr. Lin said faculty and students in Peking University would never forget the sacrifice and dedication of the revolutionists and the founders of PRC. Since the foundation of Peking University in 1898, it had bounded its own fate with that of the nation’s and brought up a large population of well-educated people for the economic and social development of the country. He also believed that the exhibition would be a great chance for everyone in PKU to receive a meaningful patriotic education.
The exhibition attracted a large group of faculty and students. They expressed their sincere gratitude and great admiration for the founders of P.R.C. students have expressed that without the founder of P.R.C.’s courage, persistence and sense of responsibility for the whole nation, our safe and peaceful life today would be impossible. Students also spoke highly of the exhibition as an effective way for them to appreciate calligraphy, paintings and other forms of Chinese art while getting to know the relatives and support of those great people better.
After the ceremony, relatives of the founders of the nation toured the exhibition accompanied by President Xu and other officers from Peking University.
