Peking University, May. 13, 2015: On April 17, Peking University 2013-2014 “Yang Xin Lotus Character” awards ceremony was held in PKU Wanliu campus multifunctional hall. The ceremony was hosted by PKU Council Vice-Chairman Ye Jingyi. Prof. Yang Xin (donator of the award), PKU Council Chairman Zhu Shanlu, the award-winning students, and principals from “Li De Shu Ren Educational Base”, Educational Foundation and other departments attended the ceremony.
At the ceremony, director of the Office of Student Affairs, Zhang Qingdong, on behalf of Peking University Student Scholarship Committee, introduced the result of the awards. The evaluation process was performed strictly according to “Peking University Student Scholarship Evaluation Regulations” and the agreement on scholarship between Prof. Yang and Peking University. Zuo Lu from School of International Studies, Zhang Hetian from Department of Chinese Language and Literature, Guo Danyang from School of Journalism and Communication, Wang Hongyuan from School of Foreign Languages and other 6 students are awarded.
Then, the second year student, Zuo Lu spoke as a representative of students awarded. She said Prof. Yang had presented a noble character both in calligraphy and in actions. The winning of the award would encourage her to improve herself and take on more social responsibilities. Students then presented calligraphy work and a video from all students who received the award as gifts to Prof. Yang.

Later, Prof. Yang gave his autographed album to each awarded student as a gift. He said he was very glad to be at the ceremony. The founding of “Lotus Character” awards also made himself improve. He felt that his dream came true with the support of the school and the departments in this process. Mount Tai and the lotus are symbols for Chinese national spirits. He would keep raising funds and help students in “Lotus Character Society” to study “lotus culture” and “Tai culture.”

As Prof. Yang and Zhu Shanlu presented a flag to the president of this society, “Lotus Character Society” was officially established. Prof. Yang was invited to be the adviser of the society, with Zhu Shanlu being invited as the chancellor.

Later in Zhu Shanlu’s speech, he stressed that the character and pursuit of Prof. Yang are in tune with the spirit of PKU. PKU faculty and students should all keep up the spirit and tradition of the university. He commented that the founding of “Lotus Character Awards” was very meaningful and he hoped that students should always follow the moral principles and pursue their dreams.
The host also expressed the hope that “Lotus Character Society” could promote the noble characters, and she also hoped that more and more students can join in for the development of Chinese traditional culture and character.
After the ceremony, the attendants visited the exhibition of lotus artworks by Prof. Yang.
