The 20th “Thousand Miles of Love” program kicks off

Peking University, May 11, 2015: On May 10, 2015, Peking University Loving Heart Society held the closing ceremony of the 1st Loving Heart Volunteer Festival and the opening ceremony of the 20th Loving Heart Volunteer Teaching Program “Thousand Miles of Love” at Yingjie Overseas Exchange Center. Professor Zhu Qingsheng, advisor of Loving Heart Society; Wang Yiming, deputy secretary of PKU Youth League Committee; and Shi Changyi, Chairman of student association department attended the ceremony.
The closing ceremony of the 1st Loving Heart Volunteer Festival began with a sign language song “Walk with Love” performed by the Sign Language Department of Loving Heart Society. The festival lasted for three days from May 8th to May 10th. During the festival, Loving Heart Society provided various activities on campus for students to have a taste of voluntary work including describing a color to visually impaired participants, using the non-dominant hand to button up, learning sign language, learning how to use a wheelchair, walking in darkness and acting to be pregnant. “We hope more students can participate in voluntary work”, said Yao Lingmiao, head of Loving Heart Society, “We also hope to arouse the students’ enthusiasm for voluntary work by showing them voluntary work can also be fun.”
After the interval, the news conference of the 20th “Thousand Miles of Love” program began. “Thousand miles of Love” is a summer voluntary teaching program with more than 60 PKU participants each year. In the past 20 years, “Thousand miles of love” program has traveled to rural places in 27 provinces and has brought knowledge and hope to the kids there. This year, volunteers will go to Jiangxi, Gansu, Yunnan and Guizhou provinces.
Gao Yunxiang, a famous Chinese actor, is the ambassador for this year’s “Thousand miles of love” program. He sent a video, saying that he highly values the program and that he hopes the program to be successful.
After the news conference, the students signed up for the program at the reception desk.
