PKU Alumni Association organizes friendly badminton game

Peking University, May 16, 2015: To celebrate the 117th anniversary day of Peking University, the badminton club of PKU Alumni Association has organized a friendly badminton game at Peking University Gymnasium on May 3rd, when hundreds of alumnus who shared the same passion for this enchanting sport were gathered together from all parts of China to enjoy the sheer fun of playing badminton.

There were all together 36 teams in this game, most of which were organized by region and some by department. The game attracted almost 400 participants, consisting of university students, graduates, teachers and university staff. There were three matches in every round: men’s singles, men’s doubles and mixed doubles. After nearly a whole day’s hard work, the school of international studies won the final match and became the champion.

Xie Xingfang presents awards for the champion

The former badminton world champion and also now the president of PKU Alumni Badminton Association, Xie Xingfang, were invited there and had close interaction with players, which lightened the atmosphere of the whole court and inspired all the audience. She called on everyone to exercise regularly to keep fit and also advocated us to play badminton once a week to enjoy the pleasure of this sport.

It was for the first time that the PKU Alumni Badminton Club organized this kind of game and the game is expected to be held once a year routinely in the future. The game facilitated the attachment between those alumnus and Peking University and after the one-day’s fierce competition, players of different ages and from various places built deep friendship with each other. The game was a feast for both players and the audience.
