Peking University, Oct. 26, 2016: On the afternoon of Oct .26, the Seventh Outstanding Student Award Ceremony is held at China University of Petroleum (Beijing). During the meeting, the 2016 Li Siguang Outstanding Student Award was given to 15 candidates, including doctoral candidates, postgraduate candidates and undergraduate candidates, along with 6 Nomination Awards. Candidates Li Zhuang and Lv Mingda, both from the School of Earth and Space Science at Peking University, won the award in recognition of their significant academic achievements. 

 
The Li Siguang Outstanding Students Award is founded to commemorate Li Siguang. As China’s great scientist and world famous geologist, his research greatly contributed to China’s social development. Fully sponsored by Li Siguang Geological Science and Technology Award Foundation and collectively initiated by many departments like the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Department of Science and Technology of Ministry of Land and Resources of Peking University, this award has already become the top honor for Chinese students in geological science.
 
Many officials from the Ministry of Land and Resources, Ministry of Education and scholars from colleagues and Li Siguang Outstanding Student Award Committee attended the meeting. Peng Qiming, Chief Engineer of Ministry of Land and Resources, Jiang Jun, Genral Director of Department of Science, Technology and International Cooperation of Ministry of Land and Resources and Vice President of the award committee, Wang Xiaolie, Party member of China Geological Survey Bureau, the Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences party secretary and vice president, and secretary of the award committee, Wang Tieguan, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Gao Runsheng, Deputy Director of Department of Science and Technology of Ministry of Education, Pan Mao, Honorary President of Department of Science and Technology of Ministry of Land and Resources of Peking University and secretary of the award committee, Yang Renshu, President of China University of Mining and Technology (Beijing), Liu Dameng, Vice President of China University of Geosciences (Beijing), and Yu Chaomei, Deputy party secretary of Department of Science and Technology of Ministry of Land and Resources of Peking University, attended.  The meeting was hosted by Lei Yujiang, the Deputy party secretary of China University of Petroleum (Beijing).
 
As Wang Tieguan said, “the Li Siguang Outstanding Student Award is deeply embodied with Li Siguang’s patriotism and spirits”, and it will encourage more and more youths to take the burden of improving China’s geosciences and create a brighter future for this entire country.
