Peking University, Nov. 7, 2016: A twenty-one experts assessment group including president of Nanjing University, Chen Jun as group leader and vice president of Sichuan University, Bu Hong, served as deputy, conducted an inspection of PKU undergraduate teaching beginning on November 7 and lasting 4 days.

On the morning of November 7, twenty-one experts from home and abroad including Wu Yan, director of the Ministry of Education Evaluation Center, had a meeting with department leaders of Peking University. Chen Jun introduced members of the expert group and emphasized five significant dimensions of assessment. Wu Yan stressed the main focus and meaning of the assessment and pointed out that the evaluation group had been the largest in scale since the beginning of China's Higher Education Assessment.

Zhu Shanlu, chairman of Peking University Council, warmly welcomed the group and invited them to raise more suggestions on PKU’s future development. President Lin Jianhua made a report on the overall development of Peking University.

After the meeting, the expert group conducted a first-hand investigation which covered many departments and vital campus facilities such as the library and school canteens.
On the afternoon of November 10, an evaluation feedback meeting was hosted by the evaluation group leader Chen Jun. President Lin Jianhua also attended the meeting. Chen spoke positively about the spirit of "dare to lead the world first" and the cultural tradition of "freedom of thought and all-embracing" of Peking University. Experts also pointed out the problems of PKU undergraduate education from diverse perspectives.
In the end, President Lin extended his gratitude to the expert group for the great deal of work it had done, and stressed the great significance of education reform. Later,Wu Yan suggested that talented people exerted huge influence on the fate of nation. Only by shifting the silence lecture into active one that filled with ideas and debates could we achieve the goal of cultivating and developing the top-grade talents.
