Xinnovation: Identity of Innovation in China

Peking University, Mar. 24, 2017: On Mar. 23, the second session of Yenching Global Symposium officially started at Peking University. 200 youth representatives and industry leaders from 52 countries gathered together to discuss the value and potential of Chinese innovation from the global perspective.
At the opening ceremony, Ivel Posada Martinez, chairman of the organizing committee, extended his welcome to the guests, and then looked back upon the growing process of the symposium. He claimed that the mission of the symposium is to bring all youth in the world united to face the changes and chances of the new age.

Yuan Ming, director of Yenching Academy, pointed out in her speech that “new” (Xin) was the theme of this symposium, which echoed what President Xi termed as “innovation is the primary force of development” in his Davos speech.The symposium was launched by Yenching Academy students, and they added various elements into it to exhibit their creative thinking. Yuan was grateful for students’ efforts and encouraged them to achieve greater results through discussion and exploration.

Afterwards, Lin Jianhua, president of Peking University, delivered his speech. He said that the symposium reminded him to consider what universities should look like. He pointed out that universities should be a platform for people from different areas and different backgrounds to make explorations and produce new thoughts, which is also the goal of the Yenching Global Symposium. He firmly believed that this symposium will provide a great incentive for young people to gather together and discuss the innovation of China and the world.
The second session of the Yenching Global Symposium lasted for 4 days. It included various activities, such as an exhibition of innovations, field visits, and collegiate salons. Famous professors, youth leaders, and industry elites working on different fields gave theme speeches on the topic of “Chinese innovation”, and discussed the latest frontiers of technology and creative concepts with the representatives.
