Peking University, Sept. 11, 2017: On the afternoon of September 8, Teacher’s Day celebration was held in Peking University Hall. Hao Ping, chair of Peking University Council, Lin Jianhua, president of Peking University and teachers and students attended the celebration.
Lin Jianhua read out the “Decision of Commending Teachers Awarded in the Academic Year from 2016 to 2017”. In the academic year from 2016 and 2017, many excellent and virtuous teachers were cited by Ministry of Education, Ministry of Science and Technology and Beijing City for their remarkable achievements. Therefore, the school decided to give them a formal commendation with the hope that they would make greater progress in the future.
Professor He Canfei, director of College of urban and environmental sciences, delivered a speech on behalf of all the teachers. He recollected the guidance and help his teachers gave him in different stages of his life. He said that education is the corner stone of national development and teachers play a major role in shaping the character of students. Teachers should perform their mission well to cultivate excellent talents.
Li Tong, an undergraduate from School of Journalism and Communication, expressed her gratitude to teachers on behalf of students. She shared her growth story and recalled some words influencing her deeply, that is, “to lose is a step to win” by Lin Jianhua, “to be tranquil as Weiming Lake” by Professor Lu Shaoyang and “to be innovative” by Professot Zhang Shiying.
Hao Ping said that teachers had the mission of enlightening students and Peking University, as one of top universities in China, must preserve the tradition of respecting teachers and education. He also put forward his hopes to teachers. First, teachers should bear their mission of cultivating students in mind and be faithful to their education career. Secondly, teachers should set a good example for students by enriching their own spirit world. Thirdly, teachers should take care of their health. Last but not least, teachers should be devoted to academic research and meanwhile remain keen on society development.
