Peking University, September 24, 2017: At the 13th National Games of China that has just ended this September, student athletes from Peking University achieved a superb result—two golds, one silver, one fourth place, one fifth place, two sixth places and two seventh places among the professional category, and two golds, one silver and one fifth place among the amateur category.
Peking University athletes performed outstandingly in track and field, shot put, basketball, soccer, Go and other events.
Guo Zhongze, a student from PKU School of Journalism and Communication, broke the 16-year national record by winning the men’s 400-meter dash in 45.14 seconds. This was also the first time for high-level athletes from PKU to win an individual champion at the National Games of China.
Shanghai Team won the gold medal in the final competition of 4*100 men’s relay race with a time of 3’5’’28. Two PKU students, Guo Zhongze and Li Runyu, were on that team. Moreover, Shanghai-Guangdong Team, which included two PKU students, He Jiayong from School of Journalism and Communication and Wu Lei from Department of Information Management, won the fifth place in 4*100 relay race.

PKU athletes also achieved excellent results in basketball events. Xinjiang Team, which has been in close cooperation with Peking University, won the sixth place in the competition. This is a major breakthrough for Xinjiang basketball in the past fifty years. Besides two veteran players, Hua Lin, a teacher at PKU, and Wang Lili, a former member of PKU basketball team, other members of the team were all PKU students. They played against high-level players in hope of learning more from the competition. The team won the sixth place in the competition.
PKU athletes also did well in the men’s basketball final. Ma Zhenyu from School of Journalism and Communication and Zhao Boqing from Law School won the second place of youth category on behalf of Shandong Province, and Zhang Ning from School of International Studies won the fourth place of youth category on behalf of Liaoning Province.

Other professional contests have also witnessed PKU athletes’ great performance. In shot put final, Sun Shuai from School of Journalism and Communication won the seventh place on behalf of Jilin Province with a throw of 18.47 meters. In men’s soccer (urban group) final, Xiao Kun from Department of Information Management won the sixth place on behalf of Suzhou City. Besides, in the individual men’s Go event, Li Zhe from Department of Physical Education won the seventh place.

In the badminton contest for amateurs, Lu Xing from Law School won a gold medal in the women's double final of Group A and a silver medal in the singles final. Ouyang Zeman who now works at PKU Department of Physical Education won another gold medal in the women's double final of Group B and a fifth place in the singles final.
