Peking University, April 10, 2018: The Mountaineering Association of Peking University (MAPKU) held the 11th Outdoor Skills Competition from April 7 to 8, 2018.
On the morning of the April 7th, Luo Shen, the Chinese Mountaineering Association’s Rock and Ice Climbing Minister, Sun Bin, a PKU alumnus and former member of MAPKU, and Liang Junyun, the head of MAPKU spoke at the opening ceremony of the competition. They cheered for the athletes present and expressed their wishes for the success of the competition.

After the teams gathered and warmed up, they started the competitive events of the first day: rock climbing, bouldering, rope skills, and three-person climbing ladders. All the events were held at the Climbing Wall on the north shore of Weiming Lake.

The major events of the 2nd day included Orienteering and Outdoor Skills, which were held in Baiwangshan Forest Park on the outskirts of the city.

On the afternoon of April 8, the participating teams returned to MAPKU’s Climbing Wall and attended the closing and awards ceremony. The Mountaineering Association of PKU, the Climbing Team of Zhejiang Ocean University and the Mountaineering Association of Nanjing University of Science and Technology were the top three teams of the overall competition.
The Outdoor Footprint Association of Tianjin University of Sport and Outdoor Sports Association of Renmin University of China won the rock climbing and rope skills competitions respectively. The Outdoor Association of Shanghai Jiaotong University received the “Sportsmanship Award” and the Earth Club of China University of Geosciences was awarded the “Outdoor Spirit Award”.
