PKU holds special meeting on system against sexual harassment

Peking University, April 14, 2018: On the morning of April 8, 2018, PKU President Lin Jianhua held a special meeting on teachers' professional ethics and discipline to discuss how to establish the system against sexual harassment in Peking University.
At the meeting, it was confirmed that PKU would firmly object to any form of sexual harassment and promote construction of the system against sexual harassment in the university. PKU would also call on teachers and students to fight against sexual harassment. In January, 2018, PKU entrusted experts to draft relevant regulations.
The meeting discussed the application of the regulations, establishment of institutions, and investigation of sexual harassment. It was agreed that every teacher and student is obliged to participate in the movement against sexual harassment. Recently, PKU formulated a series of policies to improve the system of selecting teachers according to laws and regulations. Those who do not obey professional ethics would be seriously punished.
Lin Jianhua stressed that having a consultation with teachers and students to ensure the implementation of the system would be the next step. The university would always be “student-centered” and satisfy appropriate requirements of students.
