PekingUniversity, May 8th, 2009: The recent outbreak of the H1N1 Swine Flu in the US and Mexico has been announced to be “the most globally effective public sanitation emergency situation” by the World Health Organization (WHO). It’s said the virus could spread air born germsand through contact transmission.
Although there have yet to be any human cases of swine flu in China, the sanitation departments and hospital staff have all begun to take action to prevent the spreading of the flu.
Since the night of the 28th of April, The People’s Hospital of Peking University has held multiple meetings concerning the preclusion of the H1N1 Flu. Wang Shan, director of the hospital, Vice Director Li Xiaoxin, and Secretary Chen Hong have all expressed their concernsand shown the importance of the task. The hospital has put together a team specially for the prevention and control of the H1N1 swine flu, a prevention and control proposal, a system of treatment for patents with a fever, H1N1 monitoring and reports network, and other precaution procedures.
The hospital has reacted quickly and followed the plans made. The original offices in the ShanDe Pharmacy were moved to the clinic in the 2nd floor basement and the pharmacy was reorganized that same day into a functioning Infectious Disease secondary clinic area. In the mean time, Vice Director Mao Xun led a team of medical crew to converting the clinic area into a quarantine and observation area overnight. The Medical and Nursing Department have also formed emergency medical teams.
On May 1st Labor Day, the Medical, Nursing, Infection Control and other involved departments ran a H1N1 flu control drill. The drill was completed smoothly and successfully, the problems spotted during the drill have been fixed, making the process an even swifter one.
