Peking University Professor Xu Zhihong receives CSPB Lifetime Contribution Award

Peking University, October 19, 2020: Xu Zhihong, member of the Chinese Academy of Science (CAS) and chair professor of PKU School of Life Sciences has received the Lifetime Contribution Award from the Chinese Society for Plant Biology (CSPB) for his tremendous achievements and contributions to scientific research and teaching in the field of plant biology.

The CSPB lifetime contribution award acknowledges outstanding scholars and researchers who have made significant contributions to the development of plant biology with the aim of encouraging continuous scientific innovations and breakthroughs.
Professor Xu has been engaged in the research of plant physiology for more than half a decade since he graduated from PKU department of biology in 1956. Subsequently, he obtained his master’s degree from the CAS Institute of Plant Physiology in 1969 where he continued to work after graduation. From 1979 to 1981 he became a visiting scholar at John Innes Center and the University of Nottingham in the UK. He was then appointed vice president of CAS between 1992 and 2003, and later as president of Peking University from 1999 to 2008.
Professor Xu has been a consultant expert in the agricultural field of the National Basic Research Program (973 Program) for many years. He has published more than 240 papers, reviews and monographs, and was awarded the “First Prize of the Natural Science CAS Prize Award” in 1990 and the “Third prize of National Natural Science Award” in the following year.
