Peking University, Mar. 5, 2011: After a three-month test run, Peking University Wu Jieping Urology Center, the world’s largest in scale and with medical treatment, teaching, scientific research and academic communication all combined, officially opened on February 26. The event signifies that China has made an important step towards establishing a world class urology center. The center's opening brought good news to patients with urinary diseases.
The Urology Center is located at Peking University Shougang Hospital. The cornerstone laying ceremony was held on May 6, 2008, and construction work finished on August 29, 2010. The initial construction area covered 28,500 square meters, with 209 beds arranged in the center. The center has been in a trial period for the past three months.
PKU's Wu Jieping Urology Center is staffed by a high-level technical team and utilizes some four hundred different medical instruments for testing and analysis. Renowned experts were invited to the center to provide patients with topflight medical service. Thus a center for stubborn urinary diseases was established.
During the test run period, more than 200 surgical operations were successfully carried out treating common diseases such as benign prostatic hyperplasia, bladder cancer, prostate cancer, urolithiasis, as well as a number of diseases more difficult and risky to treat.
According to Academician Wu Jieping’s belief that “science should be imparted to the public”, the center has dutifully carried out several exhibitions concerning sexual health.
Na Yanqun, President of Peking University Shougang Hospital, said that the Center would embody Wu’s advanced skills, strong sense of medical responsibility and good medical service, and would endeavor to be one of the most advanced urology medical centers worldwide.
