Peking University, November 27, 2020: On November 22, the celebration of the 110th anniversary of the Department of Chinese Language and Literature was held. Hao Ping, president of Peking University, and other university leaders as well as faculty and student representatives of the Department, attended the celebration.

Hao congratulated the Department of Chinese Language and Literature on its 110th anniversary. He reviewed its glorious history in the past 110 years and highly praised the teachers and students who have always been the pioneers of the times. Hao encouraged the teachers and students of the Department to closely integrate the development of the discipline with the needs of the nation.

Tang Zuofan, professor of the Department of Chinese Language and Literature, recalled his work experience in the Department in his speech. He said the Department should continue to uphold the fine tradition, promote integration and exchanges, advance talent introduction and training, and contribute to the development of the discipline in the new era.

Chen Xiaoming, head of the Department of Chinese Language and Literature, introduced the Department’s progress on developing the discipline into a "Double First-Class" one. Chen added that the study of Chinese language and literature has a morally uplifting power, which plays an important role in cultivating a sound and noble personality.

Representatives of students and alumni also took to the stage and expressed their best wishes. Meanwhile, twelve emeritus professors from the Department of Chinese Language and Literature joined the celebration as well and they were presented with bouquets.
