Chicago-China International Conference on Medical Cooperation Held In Beijing

Peking University, Sept. 27, 2010: In order to enhance international communication and cooperation in medical science, the recently established University of Chicago Center in Beijing held the Chicago-China International Conference on Medical Cooperation on Sept. 16, attended by specialists from several famous universities home and abroad, such as University of Chicago, Peking University and Wuhan University. Ke Yang, Executive Vice President of PKU and Executive Vice President of PKU Health Science Center, and Zhu Jiye, Director of Department of Hepatobiliary Surgery of PKU People’s Hospital and Director of PKU Organ Transplant Center, delivered laudable speeches on the seminar.

 

In her speech, Ke Yang analyzed their respective advantages and challenges of America’s and China’s medical education systems. She mentioned that only through international communication and cooperation in medical science could PKU step forward in becoming a world-class university and contribute to China’s rapid medical development.

 

In his speech “The Present State and Prospect of Liver Transplant in China”, Zhu Jiye  pointed out the importance of international communication and cooperation in the development of medical science .  Meanwhile, he said that for the development of liver transplant in China, he would spare efforts to advance communication and cooperation with Medical Center, University of Chicago.

 

University of Chicago Center in Beijing was set up on Sept.15th, 2010. About 500 people attended the founding ceremony, including Lian Zhan, Honorable President of Kuomintangand a graduate of University of Chicago, Zhou Qifeng, PKU President, Gu Binglin, President of Tsinghua University and Ji Baocheng, President of Renmin University of China.

 

University of Chicago is leading the way in American higher education and scientific research, with  as many as 85 professors, researchers and students winning the Nobel Prize since its establishment in 1890.  Robert Zimmer, the president of UC, has mentioned that the establishment of University of Chicago Center in Beijing indicated UC’s efforts to build long term cooperation with China for the better research and academic development of both sides in natural sciences, social sciences and humanities.
