Seminar on 75th Anniversary of December 9th Movement held at PKU

Peking University, Dec. 10, 2010: On the morning of Dec. 8, the seminar to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the December 9th Movement was held at Sunshine Hall of Yingjie Overseas Exchange Center, Peking University (PKU). Yu Jianting, former vice minister of previous Ministry of Light Industry, adviser of Research Institute of Yan' an Spirit, as well as a participant in the December 9th Movement, attended the seminar. With great reverence for Mr. Yu, there were around 200 students from more than 40 Beijing colleges and universities taking part in the seminar.

 

The seminar to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the December 9th Movement at PKU Sunshine Hall of Yingjie Overseas Exchange Center.


Mr. Yu recalled the December 9th Movement from his own experiences. Together with him, people reviewed Peking students' invaluable contributions to the War of Resistance against Japan. Four specialists, Huang Zhijian, Ye Xueli, Wang Dong, and Li Wenli, delivered speeches during the seminar. Wang Yang, chairman of Beijing Students' Federation, also gave a talk on behalf of the students. Later, the present specialists were awarded letters of appointment for "Tutor of Beijing Students' Federation".

Lu Yongzheng, secretary of the Central Committee of Youth League, pointed out the historical significance of December 9th Movement and hoped that students could learn from the history and carry forward the spirit of the movement. He suggested students to promote their capabilities and make more contributes to our country.

Liang Wei, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee, pointed out that retrospection of the past could further stimulate the patriotic sentiments of young students. He hoped that the youth could connect personal pursuits with our country's development consciously, and incorporate the spirit of the December 9th Movement into their social responsibilities. He said that students should promote themselves, grasp opportunities, and improve creative thinking to benefit our country. It deserves encouragement for students to actively join in the construction of Beijing to be a world-level city under the theme of "People's Beijing, Hi-tech Beijing, Green Beijing".
