Founded in 1935, ACCP was originally aimed at preventing and curing tuberculosis. Later its aim was extended to the treatment and prevention of all the chest diseases. ACCP is one of the medical groups that realized the harmfulness of tobacco at first. It has taken active action to print caution messages on cigarette packets through legislation and has pushed legislation to ban smoking on flights. At present, ACCP is an international leading organization dedicated to improving human health and promoting the treatment of patients in such fields as cardiopulmonary disease, critical disease and sleep medicine. It aims to promote the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of chest diseases through professional education and training, academic exchanges and scientific research. A feature of ACCP is that professional training and scientific research of chest diseases are done in a scientific, practical and multi-disciplinary way. CHEST, the official magazine of ACCP, has increased its quality in recent years with SCI score climbing to 6.36 compared to over 4 several years ago. CHEST also enjoys a high reputation in Respiratory Diseases, especially in clinical practice.
