The ceremony began with a speech by Professor Tian Gang, dean of BICMR. On behalf of BICMR, he welcomed the 34 students from 17 universities across China and introduced the course of this year’s training program. Finally, he encouraged the students to seize the opportunity and strengthen their knowledge of mathematics.
Professor Liu Mingli, deputy dean of PKU Graduate School, shared the stories and experiences of older mathematicians with the students, pointing out that math is not only useful in everyday life, but is also the queen of the sciences. He hoped the students would pursue their dreams with determination and conquer all the difficulties they might meet in the field of math.
Professor Wang Jiajun, on behalf of the course instructors, also gave a speech. He encouraged the students to treasure this opportunity and take full advantage of the faculty and library resources. He also shared with the audience his learning and attainments.
This training program will continue to make the full use of educational resources at home and abroad, while employing famous professors from all over the world. At the same time, all of the specialized courses for senior undergraduates and postgraduates will be open to the students of the training program. BICMR will also share advanced research results with students by conducting special mathematical lectures, academic conferences, discussion classes, and so on.
After 3-years of development, the training class of BICMR has been attained many important achievements. Many of the students obtained the chance to further their studies at PKU and Princeton University. This year’s students said that they would treasure their time at PKU and cherish this studying opportunity.
