Peking University, Nov. 7, 2018: On the morning of November 6th, the first award ceremony of “Excellent University Teachers of Computer Specialty Awards Program” was held in Peking University. 26 excellent teachers were awarded by CMT Advisory Board under the Ministry of Education, China Computer Federation (CCF) and Chinese Foundation for Teacher Development (CFTD). Nearly 200 leaders and guests attended the ceremony, including John Hopcroft, winner of Turing Award and Chinese Government Friendship Award, Hao Ping, president of Peking University, and others from diverse fields of education, technology, enterprise and media. The ceremony was held by Zheng Yonghe, formal president of Policy Bureau of National Natural Science Foundation of China. The Awards Program was jointly initiated by John Hopcroft and Professor Gao Wen, chairman of CCF and academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering.
Hao Ping, president of Peking University, delivered a welcome speech on behalf of the organizer. He congratulated all awarded teachers. From the perspective of the implementation of President Xi's important speeches, he highly appreciated the Awards Program for its consistency with ideas about higher education in the new era.

The Awards Program was supported by 10 influential technological companies including Bytedance, Sinovation Ventures, Alibaba, etc. At the ceremony, these ten companies were awarded for their social responsibility of education.
The Awards Program aims at promoting the teaching quality of undergraduates, balancing the relation between teaching and researching, and facilitating the teaching quality of disciplines related to computer science through the evaluation and awards mechanism. On the one hand, it reflects strong demands for high-tech talents among society, industries, and enterprises. On the other hand, it sets an example for other industries to cultivate high-tech talents.
