The First PKU Symposium on Comparative Politics kicks off

Peking University, April 26, 2019: From April 13 to 14, the First PKU Symposium on Comparative Politics was held by the School of International Studies.
On the morning of April 13, the opening ceremony commenced at Qiulin Lecture Hall. PKU President Hao Ping, Vice President Wang Bo, more than 40 scholars from over 20 universities and research institutes, and nearly 300 faculty members and students attended the ceremony.

In the opening remark, Hao pointed out that our world is seeing unprecedented changes, with “new normal” in global economics and political security. Facing such profound changes, China proposed to develop a new type of international relations featuring win-win cooperation, build a community with a shared future for mankind, and strengthen international cooperation for the benefit of global governance.

Hao stressed that the School of International Studies at Peking University is closely following major challenges in international politics frontier, and the School will remain committed to expanding disciplinary directions, organizing high-level symposiums, carrying out research projects regarding national development strategy, and cultivating talents for international organizations. Hao hoped the symposium could motivate young scholars to come up with fresh ideas and new solutions for global political challenges.
The symposium, under the theme “Political Gaps & Governance Challenges”, included parallel sessions spanning from the afternoon of April 13 to the morning of April 14, with topics on “Ethnic Politics”, “Theoretical Exploration of New Changes”, “Identity Politics”, “Institutional Framework and Democracy”, and etc.
