Peking University, May 19, 2019: On May 16, Beijing Municipal Commission of Education released the list of top disciplines in universities in Beijing. Three subjects of PKU, including intelligent medical engineering and technology, artificial intelligence, and molecular spectroscopy, were in the list. Besides, six disciplines co-constructed by PKU and five other municipal universities were also selected. Disciplines in the list will receive financial support up to 50 million Yuan annually in the next five-year construction period. 99 disciplines of 53 universities had been selected to the list, including 28 co-constructed subjects.

In order to implement the spirit of national discipline construction, in the second half of 2018, Beijing Municipal Education Commission launched the application and selection work of high-quality disciplines. The Discipline Construction Office of Peking University actively organized the application of relevant subjects. After the pre-examination by experts, the evaluation of expert committees in relevant fields, three disciplines were finally enrolled.

Since April 2018, the office has established a working mechanism to actively communicate with other relevant units. In June 2018, the office took the lead in completing the Plan for the Construction of First-class Universities between Beijing and Central Universities. In July 2018, Peking University signed contracts with five municipal universities to build six disciplines: history and Chinese language and literature with Capital Normal University, stomatology with Capital Medical University, foreign language and literature with Beijing Second Foreign Language College, music and dance with China Conservatory of Music, and art theory with Beijing Film Academy.

In the future, the Discipline Construction Office will steadfastly promote the construction of high-quality disciplines in Beijing to further implement the spirit of the national and Beijing education congress.
