Peking University, Oct. 22, 2010: "You college students should not regard wealth as a standard to judge happiness or success. Even under great stress, you should consider more about your interest, dream, and social responsibility rather than wealth." CCTV host Rui Chenggang made an inspiring speech on Oct. 20 in the Lake View Hotel at Peking University. The speech attracted an audience both on and off campus.

As a famous host who had interviewed lots of political leaders, successful businessmen and academic elites, what can Rui Chenggang obtain through these deep contacts? Though being tired after interviewing a well-known entrepreneur Guo Taiming (Terry Gou), he gave an excellent speech and made deep impression on all students. He came straight to the point that he opposed to the judging standard of "successful person" in society. In his opinion, using the amount of money to judge success was a sign of "over-monetization." He said he hoped that students could consider more about interest, dream, and social responsibility rather than wealth, even under great stress.

Rui held the opinion that it was easy to satisfy people in material, so it was not necessary to exaggerate people's crisis sense to material life. Firstly, with the rapid development of economy, it was quite possible for college students to live a comfortable life. Secondly, according to the law of descending marginal benefit, it would be harder and harder for people to feel satisfied as a result of excess pursuit of wealth.

Talking of his journalism career, Rui said he got much through it. He thought that "growing up with Chinese economy" wasn't just a slogan and journalists were writing their own history when telling others'. "Journalism gives me the opportunity to know other people's experience and life essence, leaving fewer obstacles on my own life road."

During the mutual interlocution after the speech, Rui Chenggang shared his understanding to answer audiences' questions about journalism, economy, puzzle in life, and so on. For example, he regarded health, family, and freedom as the three most important things in life.

Rui Chenggang, CCTV host of many programs such as "News List," "Biz China," and "World Wide Watch," has interviewed hundreds of elites from academic, business, financial, and political fields. He talked with world-renowned figures when he was just a student in China Foreign Affairs University.

This speech was an activity of "China Ping'an Inspiration Forum."
