Jul 03, 2019

Peking University, June 17, 2019: As part of the “Experience China” events sponsored by China Scholarship Council, the National Symposium for International Doctoral Candidates Studying in China was held on June 14 at Peking University. Outstanding overseas doctoral students from ten universities were invited to report their achievements during their lives in China, together with more than 200 overseas doctoral students who have obtained Chinese Government Scholarship.

At the symposium

Chen Baojian, vice president of Peking University, encouraged students to make full use of the valuable opportunity and make progress together. As Peking University released its new Global Excellence Strategy, he sent wishes to international students, hoping that they would become excellent youth who can connect China with the rest of the world and contribute their wisdom and strength to the world’s harmony and prosperity.

Chinese government has always highly valued international students in China. In 2018, more than 25,000 international Ph.D. students studied in China, including 15,000 students funded by the Chinese government.

At the symposium, ten student representatives shared their academic achievements and experiences in China. They talked about silkworm farming, Internet economic growth, mathematics development and other research fields, as well as their extensive experiences in China, including learning Chinese, experiencing Chinese culture and participating in field trips.

Led by PKU students, participants toured around the campus after the symposium. They learned the history, disciplinary development and campus environment of PKU by visiting Boya Pagoda, Arthur M. Sackler Museum of Art and Archaeology, Museum of Peking University History, the sculpture of Cai Yuanpei and other landmarks.

Touring around the campus

To help International students better know about China’s economic and social development, as well as Chinese history and culture, China Scholarship Council has organized a series of activities since 2015. With the theme of “Experience China”, these activities provide social practice and cultural experience for students. Since the beginning of “Experience China”, more than 600 students have participated in the activity. Students have great opportunities to know about China from diverse aspects, including politics, economy, science, technology and education.
