Professor Xu Hongqi from PKU EECS elected as APS fellow

Peking University, Sept. 26, 2019: Recently, the American Physical Society (APS) announced the results of the 2019 APS fellow’s election. On the recommendation of Division of Condensed Matter Physics, Professor Xu Hongqi from PKU School of Electronics Engineering and Computer Sciences (EECS) was elected for outstanding contributions to nanophysics and quantum transport in semiconductor systems. Apart from him, Professor Jiang Ying from PKU School of Physics and six other scholars from the Chinese mainland were elected.
Xu’s research fields include experimental and theoretical studies on the physical and optical properties of semiconductor nanostructures. Professor Xu has published more than 240 papers in international academic journals including Science and Nature and has made more than 120 invitation reports at international academic conferences. Besides, Xu also served as the chair of the 33rd International Conference on Semiconductor Physics (ICPS 2016). Moreover, his research results have been selected by the Ministry of Science and Technology as the top ten scientific advances in China in 2016.
Founded in 1899, the American Physics Society is one of the most prestigious physics organizations in the world. It is committed to disseminating physical knowledge and promoting the progress of physics research. By now, it has more than 40,000 members. The Society organizes annual fellowship elections and the election procedure is rather strict. Each year, no more than 0.5% of the Society’s membership will be recognized as APS fellows.
