Delegates from Hong Kong and Macao visit Peking University to boost trilateral relations

Peking University, Sept. 29: On the morning of September 26, Alexis Tam Chon Weng, secretary for Social Affairs and Culture of Macao SAR Government, and Christine Choi Yuk-lin, undersecretary for Education of Hong Kong SAR Government, led a delegation of over 210 people to Peking University. Vice Chairperson of PKU Council Wang Jie greeted the guests in Linhuxuan. The visit aimed to further strengthen relationship and promote exchanges in education among people from the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, and Macao.

Wang Jie extended a warm welcome to the delegation. He pointed out that Peking University, one of the most prestigious universities on the Chinese mainland, appeals to hundreds of full-time students and thousands of exchange students from Hong Kong and Macao every year. PKU has always been committed to promoting communication and cooperation with educators from Hong Kong and Macao, and the University will step up efforts to inherit historical culture and advance adolescent education.

Tam expressed his appreciation to PKU delegates for their hospitality. He noted that this year marks the 20th anniversary of Macao's return to China and the bilateral educational exchanges are expected to foster a stronger sense of national identity for Macao students. Choi said under the current situation, it was of great significance for the delegation to visit PKU in an attempt to strengthen ties between Hong Kong-based schools and PKU. She added that both sides will work more closely with each other in a bid to make advancement in key areas such as talent cultivation, scientific research, innovation and entrepreneurship.
