Anthology of Classical Poetry of the Belt and Road Countries makes its debut at PKU

Peking University, October 11, 2019: On the morning of September 27, the Forum on Poetry Translation and Mutual Learning between Chinese and Foreign Civilizations and the book launch of the Anthology of Classical Poetry of the Belt and Road Countries (Series 1) were held at Peking University. PKU Council Chair Qiu Shuiping and delegates from embassies of the Belt and Road countries attended the event and delivered keynote speeches. Participants also included experts and scholars from different universities and research institutes.
In his address, Qiu Shuiping expressed his gratitude to people from all walks of life who had contributed to the edition, translation, publication, and the launch of the series. Qiu added that the anthology filled the gap of translating poems of the Belt and Road countries.

Abdul Aziz How Abdullah, educational counsellor of the Malaysian Embassy to China, also gave a speech, saying that this series not only had great academic importance but also explained the value of cultural exchanges and cooperation among countries.
The Anthology of Classical Poetry of the Belt and Road Countries, a project set up in celebration of the 120th anniversary of Peking University, selects and translates the masterpieces among poems of the Belt and Road countries. The whole anthology, including over 50 volumes of poems, will be published in the first half of next year. The first series, published in August, contains 22 volumes of poems from 17 countries.
At the book launch
After the book launch, the Forum on Poetry Translation and Mutual Learning between Chinese and Foreign Civilizations was held. Translators of the series and scholars in foreign literature had a deep discussion and exchanged their opinions on relevant topics.
