Department of Economic History set up at Peking University

Peking University, October 13, 2019: The Inaugural Ceremony of the Department of Economic History was held in the School of Economics on September 27. The ceremony was chaired by Cui Jianhua, vice council chair of the School of Economics. PKU President Hao Ping, PKU Executive Vice Council Chair Yu Hongjun, faculty members and dozens of experts in the field of economic history attended the conference.
At the inaugural ceremony
Representatives from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Tsinghua University, Renmin University, Shanghai University of Finance and Economics also gave speeches, congratulating PKU on the establishment of a new department and anticipating that it will contribute to the research on economic history.
Speaking at the ceremony, Yu pointed out that the establishment of the department was a milestone in the disciplinary development of economics at Peking University. Peking University has been a pioneer in the development of various disciplines and will be committed to integrating and mobilizing resources to support the School of Economics. Yu sincerely hoped that the department can live up to all expectations and strive to build first-class disciplines on the global stage.
A donation ceremony of ChuJiwang Scholarships was also held during the ceremony. Chu Jiwang, chairman of Ningbo Ruyi Joint Stock Co.,Ltd. donated five million yuan to the School of Economics in a bid to support the development of the Department of Economic History.
After the donation ceremony, Professor Zhou Jianbo was appointed as the Director of the Department of Economic History.
