Press Conference of Preparatory Meeting of the Third World Congress on Marxism held at PKU

Peking University, October 23, 2019: On the afternoon of October 23, 2019, the press conference of the preparatory meeting of the Third World Congress on Marxism was held at PKU. During the press conference, relevant information including the theme and panel sessions was released. Hu Shaocheng, the vice-director of the Publicity Department of PKU, hosted the press conference.
Professor Sun Daiyao, the president of the academic committee of the Marxism School at PKU, introduced the original intention of holding the World Congress on Marxism. As China is playing an increasingly important role in the world, the country has become the center of the development and introduction of researches on Marxism. PKU saw the earliest introduction and study on Marxism, and the first Marxism School was established here. In our time, therefore, PKU shoulders the responsibility to bring together the world’s top scholars and provide them with a world-ranged platform to collaborate on major issues of China’s Marxism and human civilization in 21st century.
Professor Sun pointed out that, as the next year will be celebrated the commemoration of 200 year birth of Friedrich Von Engels, the commemoration of 150 year birth of Vladimir Ilyich Lenin, as well as the achievement of China’s aim to build a moderately prosperous society, the Third World Congress of Marxism would be of great significance.
Song Zhaolong, researcher of the Marxism School at PKU, released some relevant information. Professor Yu Wenli, the vice-president of the Marxism School at PKU, introduced the present progress of preparations.
Professor Alexander V. Buzgalin, from the Lomonosov Moscow State University, and Professor David Tuner, from the University of Leeds, share their experiences of participating the 1st and 2nd World Congress on Marxism. Besides, Professor Alexander V. Buzgalin, basing on the development of Marxism in Russia, affirmed the significance of Marxism in the present world. Professor David Tuner mentioned the present situation of China.
The theme of the Third World Congress on Marxism is Marxism and the Cause of Anti-poverty of Mankind.
