Professor Wu Yundong elected President of APATCC

Peking University, Oct. 29, 2019: On October 3, Leo Radom, incumbent president of the Asia-Pacific Association of Theoretical and Computational Chemists (APATCC), announced that Professor Wu Yundong, a theoretical organic chemist from Peking University Shenzhen Graduate School, was to be the new president, at the closing ceremony of the 2019 Asia Pacific Conference on Theoretical and Computational Chemistry (APCTCC-9) in Sydney, Australia. Professor Wu Yundong is the first Chinese scholar to serve as the president of APATCC since it was founded in 2004.

APATCC is an international academic organization that represents the theoretical and computational chemists in the Asia-Pacific region. Professor Kimihiko Hirao is its first president. Held every two or three years, APATCC is an important occasion for the exchange of the latest research among theoretical and computational chemists in the Asia-Pacific region. Outstanding scholars are also awarded during this conference. The conference enjoys active participation from government, industries and academia.
Speaking as the new president, Professor Wu Yundong thanked the trust of the APATCC Board and the outstanding contributions of two former presidents, Hirao and Radom, to APATCC. He also pledged that he would take up the presidency with a high sense of mission and responsibility and strive to help APATCC develop even better. Placing high hopes on the future of APATCC, he sincerely wished that all theoretical and computational chemists could continue to make breakthroughs and achieve fruitful research results in their respective fields.
Professor Wu Yundong is mainly engaged in computational chemistry research, including the mechanism of organic chemical reactions, the development of protein molecular force fields, and drug design based on protein-protein interactions. He was elected as the vice president of APATCC in 2012 and was the first Chinese scholar to be awarded the Fukui Medal in 2014. Professor Wu’s being elected the president of APATCC helps greatly to enhance the global influence of China's theoretical and computational chemistry research. It also shows that China's research in the theoretical and computational chemistry has become more prominent, and the development in this field has gained more attention and recognition than before from international academic communities.
