Shen Tiyan delivers keynote speech in 7th Sino-German Symposium on Urbanization

Peking University, Nov. 7, 2019: The 7th Sino-German Symposium on Urbanization was held on October 29, 2019 at Changchun, China. Song Jingwu, vice president of the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, Bernhard Kaster, former member of the Germany’s Bundestag and other guests attended the symposium. Professor Shen Tiyan, executive dean of PKU Institute of Urban Governance, was invited to deliver a keynote speech on one of the symposium’s panel sessions.
The symposium
In his speech, Professor Shen introduced China’s experience on industrial cluster development and suggested a Sino-German cooperation on this issue. His proposed Sino-German cooperation includes a 5G-based collaborative governance, assessment and exchanges, partnership, brand-forging, and support from science and technology.
The symposium, themed “people-centered urbanization: experience and practice of China and Germany”, views it a priority to shape an enabling climate for economic development. A closer Sino-German urbanization partnership is a way to push for political dialogue, encourage exchanges between cities and institutions, and tackle problems arising from the urban sprawl. Experts from both China and Germany shared their insightful views in the symposium, hoping to bring a better balanced economic and social development to Changchun and forge a deeper cooperation between China and Germany. By doing so, the symposium hopes to promote deeper understandings between these two countries.
On Oct. 30, participants visited several Changchun landmarks, including FAW-Volkswagen, Changchun City Planning Exhibition Hall, and Changchun Sculpture Park.
