21st annual meeting of Hui-Chun Chin and Tsung-Dao Lee Chinese Undergraduate Research Endowment held

Peking University, Nov 11, 2019: On November 9, the 21st annual meeting of Hui-Chun Chin and Tsung-Dao Lee Chinese Undergraduate Research Endowment (CURE) was held at Peking University. Teachers from various schools and representatives of “Chun-Tsung Scholars” attended the meeting.
The endowment was set up by Tsung-Dao Lee and his relatives in memory of Lee’s late wife, Hui-Chun Chin in 1998 at Peking University, Fudan University, Lanzhou University and Suzhou University. The endowment aims at encouraging young students to participate in scientific research training during the undergraduate period. Young students who have benefited from the endowment are called “Chun-Tsung Scholars” and their number has exceeded 4,000 so far. The endowment can be described as the cradle of undergraduate research projects.
Wang Chuilin, researcher at the China Center of Advanced Science and Technology, read a congratulatory letter from Lee. Lee said that endowment had been committed to supporting outstanding undergraduates to participate in scientific research since its establishment in 1998. Each school involved has established a research fund for undergraduate students, which greatly promotes scientific research and teaching. He hoped that “Chun-Tsung Scholars” and other young students would commit themselves to the development of the country and mankind in a ceaseless attempt.
Gong Qihuang, vice president of Peking University, said in his speech that CURE introduced the educational model of undergraduate research training and research study to domestic universities, reflecting Tsung-Dao Lee’s farsighted vision. He hoped that the students would continue to explore along the path of science and innovation.
Zhang Ansheng, vice president of Shanghai Jiaotong University and secretary general of the Hui-Chun Chin and Tsung-Dao Lee Endowment Program Commission expressed warm congratulations on the opening of the annual meeting. He said that the fund could step into the basic research science research by guiding college students at the undergraduate level. He hoped that more outstanding talents would join the family of CURE and start a new chapter.
