The Founding Ceremony of PKUHSC Medical Technology Research Institute held

Peking University, November 20, 2019: November 13 saw the founding ceremony of the Institute of Medical Technology (IMT), Peking University Health Science Center. Zhan Qimin, executive vice president of PKU, Zhao Zilin, chairman of China Association of Medical Equipment (CAME), Zou Hui, division chief of Basic Affairs of the Department of Science and Technology, Ministry of Education (MOE), and other experts, management personnel, as well as 120 teachers and students from IMT were present at the ceremony. Yuan Guihong from IMT hosted this ceremony.
Zhan Qimin delivering a speech
As the first dean of IMT, Zhan delivered a welcome speech, congratulating the foundation of IMT as well as extending gratitude to MOE and other ministries and departments at all levels for their guidance and support. Zhan also pointed out that the disciplinary construction of medical technology is highly consistent with the idea of the development of “PKU Health Science”. Supported by the science and engineering discipline of PKU and many other universities, IMT had jointly undertaken a number of special projects concerning major medical equipment and developed a graduate course of advanced medical technology.
At the opening ceremony
Zhao Zilin pointed out that the team of experts from PKU had contributed greatly to the development of the institute, and in turn, the institute would always support the innovative development of interdisciplinary research of medicine and technology. He also extended his hope that all parties should join hands to contribute to the development of medical equipment and the growth of medical industry. After Zhao’s speech, other experts also delivered speeches during the ceremony.
At last, Han Hongbin, executive deputy dean of IMT, delivered his report based on the founding process, developing vision and future prospect of IMT. Medical technology discipline is a first-class discipline established independently according to the needs of the development of health science in China. The driving force of the development of medical technology discipline of Peking University stemmed from the tackling of the problem appearing in the clinical diagnosis and treatment of major diseases, the competition in innovation between China and western developed countries, the national demand for the independent innovation and development of domestic medical equipment industry, as well as Peking University's grasp of history, current situation and the development trend of modern medical science. Han Hongbin said that IMT was established by the interdisciplinary team after years of hard work. The approved construction of the institute was not only a recognition of the past work, but also a responsibility. IMT would develop itself into a frontier position of medical inter-discipline, contribute to the overall medical discipline construction, make more achievements, and cultivate high-level interdisciplinary talents.
