The unveiling ceremony of Peking University’s Institute of Opto-Electronic Science held

Peking University, Dec. 8, 2019: On November 30, the unveiling ceremony of Peking University’s Institute of Opto-Electronic Science in Yangtze River Delta was held in Nantong, a city in Eastern China's Jiangsu province. Qiu Shuiping, chair of Peking University Council, Gong Qihuang, vice president of PKU and Lu Zhipeng, party chief of Nantong, were present at the ceremony.

Before the ceremony, Qiu Shuiping came to Nantong Central Innovation District and inspected the living environment and surroundings of Zilang Lake where the institute is located. Qiu hoped that the institute would serve as a starting point of PKU’s long-term cooperation with Nantong and that both sides should work closely to promote the development of the institute.
At the ceremony, Gong Qihuang stated that the establishment of the institute in Nantong was an important project for PKU’s advanced interdisciplinary research on optics and optoelectronics. PKU would take advantage of its comprehensive disciplines to build a team of top talents. The professionals will be tasked with conducting research on opto-electronic science.
Lu Zhipeng highly praised the cooperation between PKU and Nantong. He said that since PKU is one of the top universities in China and a powerhouse of China’s technical innovation, the establishment of the institute in Nantong is bound to give impetus to the development of Nantong. Lu also expressed his hope, that PKU gave more guidance and support to the institute’s follow-up construction, such as elite recruitment, laboratory building and scientific research. Moreover, he pledged that Nantong municipal government would provide sufficient lands, funds and other necessary facilities to support the institute.
