Happy World Theatre Day: A montage of theatre arts at PKU

Peking University, March 27, 2020: It’s March 27, World Theatre Day! Since 1962, people across the globe celebrate World Theatre Day every year on March 27 in the hopes of promoting awareness about the importance of theatre arts and showcasing the changes that theatre has brought to our lives.
Peking University, an institution with a time-honored history in the arts and humanities, values theatre arts and has been dedicated to the education of theatre in multiple ways. Today, in celebration of this year's World Theatre Day, we want to share some of PKU's theatre stories with you.
Joseph Graves: Veteran Stage Actor & Director

He has been involved in six productions that integrated elements from traditional Chinese opera. His performance of the Pulitzer-winning play Our Town, written by Thornton Wilder, boldly incorporated Peking Opera into an English-language performance.
The Academy Awards of Musicals
The Peking University School of Arts has been celebrating the best musicals and musical performers on campus annually with The Academy Awards of Musicals for more than four years. The Awards offer opportunities for musical professionals to practice and learn from each other while setting the standard for academic art in universities and institutions. Co-organized by the Peking University Office of International Relations and supported by the Chinese Theater Association, the event has become a highlight of the Peking University International Culture Festival.
PKU Juxing Drama Competition
Peking University holds the Juxing Drama Competition, an annual student-run event, to give young students an opportunity to fulfill their passion for acting and the performing arts. The competition now has a history of eight years and is definitely one of the most popular events on campus — it is on the Bingo list of many PKUers!
Given that we're all trying to follow social distancing and staying at home, it might be a nice idea to find some plays or musicals online and watch them with your family to celebrate World Theatre Day!
