PKUHSC and the Medical School of University of Michigan convene a video conference on COVID-19

Peking University, March 30, 2020: On March 26, Peking University Health Science Center (PKUHSC) and the Medical School of University of Michigan (U-M) held a video conference on combating COVID-19 with a joint effort. Medical professionals attended the meeting from Beijing, Wuhan, and Ann Arbor, Michigan, as part of the efforts to help U-M Medical School contain the spread of COVID-19.
At the online conference
Zhan Qimin, executive vice president of Peking University and president of PKUHSC, said COVID-19 has become a common enemy of mankind, so it is imperative that the whole world should make concerted efforts to fight against it. Zhan added that a total of 428 medical workers from PKU Medicine have been sent to Wuhan to combat the pandemic, and they have gained precious clinical experience through treating critically ill patients on the front line. Zhan hoped the conference would help U-M win the battle against COVID-19.
Marschall Runge, executive vice president of the University of Michigan and dean of the Medical School, expressed his gratitude for the help from PKUHSC and introduced the current situation facing U-M Medical School. He hoped to learn from China’s experience and enhance mutual communication and cooperation with PKUHSC, particularly through the University of Michigan Health System and Peking University Health Science Center Joint Institute for Translational and Clinical Research.
Medical experts from both sides had a heated, fruitful discussion on various aspects of COVID-19, including the latest development of the virus outbreak, prevention and control measures, case studies and clinical experience. The Chinese experts shared PKU’s effective experience and provided detailed answers to questions from U-M. U-M extended heartfelt thanks to PKU for sharing valuable experience and paid tributes to PKU’s medical teams in Wuhan. Moreover, both sides have been committed to fighting against COVID-19 through deeper cooperation.
