PKU Delegation visits Yale University

Peking University, Dec.7, 2011: On the afternoon of December 2 local time, Peking University (PKU) Council Chairman Zhu Shanlu and his delegation paid a visit to Yale University and held talks with President Richard Levin and Vice President Linda Koch Lorimer of Yale University. Yale President Richard Levin welcomed PKU delegation saying that PKU was one of the most important partners for Yale in China and that the PKU-Yale Joint Undergraduate Program had been fruitful.

Professor Zhu said that as two top universities with responsibilities for their own nations’ development, Yale and PKU shared many same notions and goals and thus further corporation can be made in many fields. In recent years, PKU laid emphasis on the very opportunity to cooperate with Yale and had launched many exchange programs such as students exchange program and global conferences. Zhu also noted that it was important for Yale and PKU to strengthen their collaboration by various means, such as setting up overseas offices to improve communication and arranging “Peking University Day” at Yale in 2012. 

 

The agreements on PKU-Yale Joint Undergraduate Program and Yale Summer School were signed during the meeting. Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, who was also one of the international consultants of Beijing Forum, attended the signing ceremony by invitation. Zhu thanked Mr. Blair for his long-time support for PKU and said that PKU would undertake profounder and wider corporation with “The Tony Blair Faith Foundation”. Mr. Blair also accepted Zhu’s invitation for the next Beijing Forum.

When Zhu and his delegation visited IBM Watson Research Center, IBM Fellow Dr. Chen Ziqiang, Vice President of Science and Technology Research Center, briefed the delegation on the research progress. After visiting the Blue Gene and Watson supercomputer, two sides exchanged their ideas on potentials for further collaboration between PKU and IBM.
