Peking University, Mar. 2, 2011: Paris Institute of Technology (ParisTech) held discussions with Peking University (PKU) on March 29, seeking more cooperation in the future.
Professor Valérie Cabuil, director of Chimie ParisTech (chemistry), paid a visit to PKU, and talked with PKU President Zhou Qifeng and other PKU professors.
PKU professors introduced PKU especially from the perspective of research, teaching and international cooperation in the fields of chemistry, energy resources, materials and so on.
Professor Valérie Cabuil then talked about France’s higher education system and other matters related to Chimie ParisTech. She said that her school was very glad to enroll Chinese students through ParisTech’s “9+9 Program” to train Chinese engineers. By participating in the program, graduates of nine Chinese universities — PKU included — can study at ParisTech without tuition charges.
Professors from the two sides all expressed the willingness to have more communication and cooperation in the future.
At the end of this visit, guests visited PKU’s Center for Nanochemistry and Key Laboratory of Microorganism and Biological Technology.
Background Info:
Paris Institute of Technology, founded in 1991, is now comprised of the twelve best colleges in France. Each of them represents the optimum academic standard in its own field, such as computer science, physics, and economics. The president of this institute is elected from the directors of these schools every two years.
The colleges all have a long history and have nurtured many outstanding scholars, scientists and leaders, including many winners of the Nobel Prize. The colleges are typically small-scale, boast very competitive admissions, and emphasize putting knowledge into practice.
